December 16, 2008
(Halifax, NS) – After a six-year hiatus, JUNO nominated and seven-time East Coast Music Award-winning group Rawlins Cross make their live return. The band will perform in support of their recently released seventh album Anthology (Ground Swell/Warner) during a tour of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, April 14 to 18.
Dates include:
April 14 Moncton Capitol Theatre
April 15 Glace Bay Savoy Theatre
April 16 Saint John Imperial Theatre
April 17 Fredericton The Playhouse
April 18 Halifax Rebecca Cohn Auditorium
Featuring a collection of fan favourites, three new songs including the emphasis track “Make the Change” and a Celtic instrumental set, Anthology builds on the success of its predecessors, Make it on Time (1998), Celtic Instrumentals (1997), Living River (1996), which garnered two JUNO nominations, Reel ‘N’ Roll (1993), Crossing the Border (1992) and A Turn of the Wheel (1989).
Formed in the late 1980s, Rawlins Cross is brothers Dave Panting (guitar and mandolin) and Geoff Panting (keyboards and accordion), Ian McKinnon (highland pipes and tin whistle), Joey Kitson (lead vocals), Howie Southwood (drums) and Brian Bourne (bass and Chapman Stick). The band made their breakthrough with singles like “Colleen” and “Reel ‘n’ Roll” and went on to become a mainstay in the Canadian Celtic scene.
The Georgia Straight said of the group, “...there’s no band more capable of bringing the unique cultural mix of Canada’s Atlantic Provinces into the contemporary world,” and Bob Mersereau, author of The Top 100 Canadian Albums, called Rawlins Cross “theultimate East Coast Band from the great Celtic resurgence of the 1990's.”
